With some heavyweight performances from French acting stalwarts Emmanuelle Devos and Mathieu Amalric and an electrifying script from director Sophie Fillières, If You Don’t I Will is a devastating bombshell of a film, exploring a relationship falling apart. From its opening sequence of nagging tension and dysfunctional disharmony, the film is fraught with cutting one-liners and an ever-widening distance. Despite a captivating single-handed performance from Devos, Arrête Ou Je Continue loses some of its crackling energy when she disappears into the French woodlands. But with such a wickedly observational script, If You Don’t I Will puts woman, man and their infernal relationships under the knife.

If You Don’t I Will is showing on Oct 12th, 17th and 19th at the 58th BFI London Film Festival
