With an awe-inspiring opening scene and fantastic performances from its two leads Natalia Tena and David Verdaguer, Carlos Marques-Marcet’s 10,000 km is an authentic love story of a couple struggling to cope with a long-distance relationship, when photographer Alex leaves crisis-struck Barcelona for a year in Los Angeles. Shot in long takes and a magisterial camera, 10,000 km also plays with modern technology – as we watch Alex and Sergi Skype and text – simultaneously committed to sharing their experiences fully with each other, but also terrorised by the time difference, their discordant rhythms, and their computers’ all-seeing eyes. While 10,000 km loses some of its urgency when the two lovers are apart, it remains nevertheless a poignant and desperately authentic tale of love put to the test.

10,000 km is showing on Oct 9th, 10th & 12th at the 58th BFI London Film Festival
