The Best Cinema In The World?
OK, we all love cinema. But what about the cinema itself? What’s your favourite cinema? Is it the Odeon where you had your first back-row kiss? The theatre where you first realised the power of cinema? Or the cinematheque which offers late-night Bergman and Pasolini?
Graumann’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood? The Raj Mandir in Jaipur? London’s Electric Cinema? Or maybe the open-air cinema on Parikia Beach?
Let us know your favourite cinema, and why. Cinema is a many splendored thing.
My favourite cinema in the world is the Palace Westgarth in Northcote, Melbourne Australia.
It is a classic 1920’s art deco cinema. The seats are comfy, the screens are huge and you can take your choice of booze from the licensed bar in to sip while you watch. Also worth a mention are the chilli chocolate or bailys flavoured choc tops. It plays a good mix of Hollywood and art house stuff…all in all, a very great cinema.
It’s the one in sydney that i’ll need to check the name of opposite radio cairo where the boy disappears with his organ into the floor. class! x
My fave cinema is The Bloor Cinema in Toronto! http://bloorcinema.com/ A Toronto landmark! Many a crazy memory has been made here!
There is a little old cinema in Frome, Somerset that has been unfairly named the “Frome Flea-pit”. It has bags more character than the usual big name cinemas.
The Kinema In The Woods in Woodhall Spa is amazing! http://www.thekinemainthewoods.co.uk. it’s a 1920s cinema with an organ that plays in the intermissions of the films – a brillianbt experience, I love it!
A fine cinema was the long lost Bedford Granada Cinema. In the 80’s and 90’s Bedford town council pursued a policy known as “shitification” – part of which was to remove as many attractive buildings as possible and fill the town with themed pubs. The nice 1930’s building was replaced with an Aldi! http://www.flickr.com/photos/12494104@N00/1065919254 boooo
